Karrie Baldwin Penney
“The landscape is a marker that connects us to our place in the world.” This thought provides a starting point to communicate a connection to the western landscape.
These impressionistic landscapes represent a familiar place, yet bring something new to be discovered. They emerge from the personal relationship I hold with a place and the atmosphere. The use of color and character of the brush stroke communicate the emotion and memory of that place. Layers of paint and a variety of painting techniques show the process of painting while traces of under-painting and texture create visual interest and suggest a physical connection with the landscape. Many paintings begin and end on-site. Others are completed in the studio from on-site sketches, photographs and the visual memories I have absorbed over time.
Karrie Baldwin Penney received a Bachelors Degree in Fine Art, Painting and Drawing from the University of Utah in 2003. She has shown her work in several juried shows and exhibits including; Park City Professional Art Association Group Show, 2005, 2006, Deseret News Landscape Show, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2007, Two Sisters Fine Art Gallery, Heber, UT and Patrick Moore Gallery in Salt Lake City, UT.
